Back in February, Empowered Together had the privilege of facilitating our Consent 101 workshop for participants at the Inclusion Foundation – a for-purpose charity paving the way to an inclusive future for people with Down’s Syndrome. At ET, we believe that consent education is a right that everyone should have access to. We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to collaborate with the Inclusion Foundation.

Over several months, ET’s CEO Courtney and facilitators Lucy and Charlotte worked together, redeveloping Consent 101 to best suit the needs of the participants at the Inclusion Foundation. We were guided by the expertise of Inclusion Foundation staff with the final workshop reflecting an engaging and accessible approach to consent education.
Here’s what Charlotte, our Workshop Facilitator, had to say about her experience:
“Facilitating Consent 101 at the Inclusion Foundation was very positive and rewarding. I enjoyed stripping back our usual consent workshop script to create something very straightforward and to the point – this process allowed me to think in new ways about the concept of consent and how we explain it.
“I found the participants to be very interested and eager to learn, with lots of questions asked. It was clear that the topics of sex and consent were things that many participants had not previously had the chance to discuss, which showed just how necessary these workshops are.
“It was very rewarding to see participants grasp the concepts – whether quickly or with time as we explained things more. These workshops challenged me to make these topics as accessible as possible – such as through speaking at a slower pace and repeating things a couple of times until I was sure it had been understood. Overall a great experience that I am excited to participate in again!”
